      The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind all motorists and bicyclists that May is Bicycle Safety Month. As the Southern Tier has seen an increased number of serious bicyclist accidents over the past couple of years, we would remind all motorists and bicyclists to obey traffic safety signals and general rules of the road. The Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Elmira, Elmira Heights, Horseheads and West Elmira Police Departments, will be working with the Chemung County Traffic Safety Board and the Southern Tier Bicycle League to make the 2013 Bicycle Safety Month the safest on record. I would ask you to remember to share the road, don’t crowd bicyclists, allow for safe distance when passing and following bikes. If we all work together we can achieve our goal.  Remember SHARE THE ROAD.
