As your Sheriff, I hope that you will find this website both informative and educational as it pertains to law enforcement on a county level. The County Sheriff is the primary law enforcement executive in each county of the State of New York. An elected official, he is accountable to every citizen in the county he represents. The Sheriff is the only elected law enforcement officer in the State of New York.

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office is a full service law enforcement agency with approximately 140 members and an annual budget of over $16,000,000.00. The Sheriff’s Office is comprised of four divisions: Community Services/Civil, Corrections, Criminal Investigation Division and Police Services. The Sheriff’s Office also has a Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT) and a Special Services Unit (SSU), a Community Resource Officer Program (CRO), a DWI Officer Program, a K-9 Program, as well as several other community based programs that enhance the agency’s ability to adequately serve the citizens of Chemung County.

A possession of a license by the State of New York to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse is required for this position.
Must have: Good knowledge of nursing principles and techniques and their relation to medical and surgical practices; good knowledge of materia medica, sanitation, personal hygiene and dietetics; skill in the application of nursing techniques and practices; ability to carry out successfully the therapeutic measures prescribed; ability to follow technical oral and written instructions; ability to keep records and make reports; ability to get along well with patients, physicians and others; good observation; mental alertness; firmness; patience; emotional stability; sympathetic attitude toward the sick; good moral character; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the positions.
Main duties include: Inmate care, conduct rounds, dispense meds, conduct med count, on-call rotation, etc.
