Operation R.A.M. (Rid Area of Meth)

These tanks used to hold anhydrous ammonia were recovered last month along a roadway in the Town of Baldwin.

Operation R.A.M. (Rid Area of Meth) is a local initiative created by the Chemung County Sheriff's Office to fight the production and sale of methamphetamine. The program is based on two components: education and enforcement. In 2006, the Sheriff's Office received an Operation Impact Tools Grant to help establish this program, which has been very successful to date. In conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration, as well as other local police municipalities, the Sheriff's Office conducts investigations involving the production and sale of methamphetamine. Sheriff's officials have also conducted over 25 educational presentations to utility companies, local service organizations, fire departments and the general public. If your organization would like a presentation on how to safeguard your family and friends from the hazards of methamphetamine, please contact Lt. Thomas Argetsinger or Lt. Nicolas DeMuth at (607) 737-2933.
