Records Division

The Records Division of the Sheriff’s Office is responsible for a variety of tasks, which include forwarding informations, depositions, Uniform Traffic Tickets, fingerprint cards, etc., to county, city and local courts.  The Records Division is the repository for all departmental paperwork generated by the Road Patrol and the Criminal Investigation Division staff.  The Records Division also assists Deputy Sheriffs with teletype messages, as well as tracking Deputies’ NYSPIN certifications.  Sex Offender Registry information is maintained by Records.  Office hours are 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.  Telephone: 607-737-2948 or 607-737-2937; email:  sbermingham@chemungcountyny.gov

Background Checks:  The individual of whom the background check is being made must sign the authorization form.  The individual’s date of birth and address must be included.  This agency charges $5.00 per background check, no information will be released until payment has been received.  Only cash and money orders will be accepted.  Background checks may be faxed to this agency at 607-737-2931 and can be faxed back as long as the record is negative and payment has been received.  If there is a history, it must be either picked up in person or it will be mailed.  Self-address, stamped envelopes must be provided.  The background checks performed at this agency DO NOT include any other area police agencies’ contacts. No background checks will be sent until payment has been made.
