The Pistol Permit Office regular hours is Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM., and is closed Mondays and and Fridays and Holidays. No appointment is necessary.

2) Upgrade of a current license
3) Transfer either into or out of this county
4) Amendments to a current license (buy/sell)
5) Co-registering of weapons

Fees involved in acquiring a permit are as follows are to be paid with CASH ONLY:
Application: $ 15.00
Fingerprints: $ 105.50
Amendments: $ 3.00
Purchase Coupon: $ 1.00
Issuance/Update Permit Fee: $ 25.00
Pistol Permit/Safety Training Class: $20.00
Pistol Permit Safety/Training Classes:
Classes are required for any current pistol license holder seeking an upgrade to UNRESTRICTED as well as new applicants seeking an UNRESTRICTED pistol license. All classes are on Saturday - 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Cost is $20.00 (payable at the time of class). It is necessary to arrive at 8:00 AM to check-in, so that the class can start promptly at 8:30 AM.
The Chemung County Sheriff's Office is offering four dates in 2016 for the required pistol permit course: January 16, 2016 (CLOSED - Class is Full); April 16, 2016 (CLOSED - Class is Full); May 21, 2016 (CLOSED - Class is Full), June 18, 2016 (CLOSED - Class is Full); and October 15, 2016. Classes will be held at the HRC Building at 425 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY 14904 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am. Each class will be limited to a maximum of 150 attendees. You MUST register, NO WALK-INS WILL BE ACCEPTED.You cannot register for the safety class until a completed application is on file with our office.
The classes listed are NOT for PA residents, they will be taking a separate class specific to them. Dates to be announced.
